Introduction to VSMART Objectives concept

VSMART Goals is a smart and effective method of goal setting . VSMART stands for 6 criteria that need to be achieved for the goal to be considered valuable and effective: T ( Time) Determined time. R ( Relevant) Related.     A ( Achievable) Feasible. M ( Measurable) Measure. S (Specific) Specific.   V (Value) Value.

Let's try to analyze an easy target. The hotel owner has 100 rooms with an average rent of $500/room/day. He set a business goal of $ 1,000,000 / month, room occupancy rate 67%. He prays that the departments do their assigned tasks well and will reward them if they achieve their goals.

Then, the employee looks at the current business results, finds that the last 3 months the hotel has a revenue of $ 500,000 / month, So can the target set by the boss be achieved? Do their salaries and bonuses increase, ensuring a good life? If they don't reach their goal within the next month, will they be criticized, fired?

We clearly see the harm of a declared non-VSMART target.

And here's how I applied VSMART to the goal setting:

Step 1: Determine T including start time, end time and preparation time for the goal.

One-year goal, starting January 1 to December 30 of next year.

The preparation and planning time is 3 months.

Step 2: Determine R factors related to, affecting the goal

1. Self: characteristics, behaviors, interests, problems, expectations

- Hotel owner: 40 years old, often travel, go to many hotels, want to collect investment capital and profit.

- Receptionist: 20 - 35 years old, professional and content guided by the manager, 8 hour working day, income about 5$/hour. Frequently dealing with problems, complaints or requests for support from customers, less traveling and going to other hotels.

- Housekeeping,...

-

2. Customers: characteristics, behaviors, preferences, problems, expectations

- 70% are foreign tourists

- 30% of local guests

- Find hotels near attractions, tourism, seminars.

- Hobbies for sightseeing, delicious food and swimming in the lake,...

- The price and service make them satisfied

Company: characteristics, behavior, preferences, problems, expectations

- There are 100 rooms, 20 employees

- Operating 24/7 to serve customers

- The problem is the number of customers and low revenue

- Expect many customers to know, use the service, love it and return, professional and engaged staff.

Partners: characteristics, behaviors, preferences, problems, expectations

- Travel agencies

- Food supplier

- Media, press and celebrities

- There are criteria and customer segments, prices.

- Expect to have a win-win partner, the agreements bring efficiency to each party.

Community: characteristics, behaviors, interests, problems, expectations

- Those who are interested, looking for services related to accommodation and tourism

- People and local government

- The image, quality of life and general economy are developed

Step 3: Identify A including existing resources, similar business models, and the results they are achieving.

- Number of personnel: 20

- Facilities: more than 100 rooms, area 1000m2

- Management system

-       ….

Hotels with a scale of 100 rooms in the nearby area, they have 20 employees, 10 travel partners, 1 media partner, their services are rated above 4.5 stars with a revenue of $ 1,000,000/ month - $1,500,000 per month.

Step 4: Determine M metrics at each touchpoint

- Draw the buying and selling journey as follows:

1. Know up to 3,000 views/day

2. Interested, contact 100 customers/day

3. Consulting, sales: 80 transactions and 40,000 USD/day

4. Product and service experience: managed service quality and star satisfaction.

5. Take care and receive feedback: customer referrals, returning customers,...

Step 5: Identify S specific: strategies, plans, and work to accomplish the goal

From the buying and selling journey, the above factors have been identified, the specific roles and tasks are clear

- The hotel manager will have a professional training plan for staff

- The diplomatic department, CEO or hotel owner will develop more partners

- Human resources work and propose improvements to increase efficiency.

-

Step 6: Determine V value received by all parties

- Revenue, cost, profit calculate and determine reward, profit sharing ratio.

- If the profit is good, you are willing to pay employees bonuses in exchange for happiness, love and attachment.

- You are willing to spend more money to take care and give gifts to dear customers and partners.

- If the profit is good, of course you should be happy that you have contributed development taxes to the locality, the community where you are doing business.

- Finally, you also get the reward that belongs to you after investing in the business.
